Cirrus Logic's PS7500FE Enables Internet TV for Europe

MUNICH, Germany--March 20, 2000--Strengthening its position as an enabler of Internet technology worldwide, Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today announced that its web-browser-on-chip solution, the PS7500FE, has been selected by Bush, an Alba plc Group subsidiary, for use in its new Internet TV product that will initially target the European market.

The Bush Internet TV provides simple and inexpensive access to the Internet including email messaging via TV. With Cirrus Logic's, the new product promises to open the world of the Internet to a broad range of consumers through the easiest to use and most familiar form factor -- the TV.

In three easy steps (Plug In, Switch On, Browse) and without needing to subscribe to an additional service, the new Bush Internet TV allows everyone from grandparents to children to access the Internet without hidden extra costs.

UK-based Alba chose Cirrus Logic's PS7500FE device because it provides a highly-integrated solution that combines major system components onto a single chip. The PS7500FE incorporates a 32-bit ARM RISC processor with advanced peripheral functions, including a floating point co-processor, a display controller, a complete memory controller, and direct interfaces to modem and LAN devices.

``Internet access via the TV is a rapidly growing application, especially in areas of the world with low computer penetration,'' said Daniel Harris, Alba chief executive. ``The introduction of Bush Internet TV will bring the Internet into every household by making access simple and affordable. Integrating Cirrus Logic's PS7500FE into our design helped reduce system cost and complexity while speeding our time to market.''

``Alba's selection of our PS7500FE provides further proof of Cirrus Logic's commitment to building a long-term leadership position in the Internet appliance market,'' said Matt Perry, vice president and general manager of Cirrus Logic's Embedded Processors Division. ``ARM-based solutions such as the PS7500FE and our more recently introduced Maverick(TM) line of 'Market Specific Processors(TM)' are central to devices that will enable the extension of the Internet into the homes of millions of consumers. It is through combined innovations, such as this partnership between Alba and Cirrus Logic, that will enable new communications mediums to be brought to the growing, connected generation.''

To date, Cirrus Logic's PS7500FE has already captured more than 25 design wins for Internet-enabled appliances, such as set-top boxes, screen-phones and game boxes.
