Cirrus Logic Crystal® Audio Device Is First To Meet Microsoft Windows Logo Requirements For Use With Windows Millennium

Device Allows Computer Manufacturers to Quickly Bring to Market the Highest Quality Audio Solution that Meets Windows Millennium Requirements

AUSTIN, Texas –June 29, 2000 -- Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS)

, the worldwide market share leader in audio ICs, according to Forward Concepts, today announced that its Crystal® CS4281 is the first audio device to meet Windows Logo requirements for Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me).

The CS4281 has endured rigorous testing to ensure compatibility with all Microsoft design criteria in order to meet Windows Logo requirements. As a result, computer manufacturers can be assured that the CS4281 and its device driver software will pass Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Lab (WHQL) audio requirements. This will streamline system testing, allowing computer manufacturers to introduce new systems faster.

The CS4281 is a PCI audio controller that delivers legacy support for both Real Windows DOS Box and Real Mode Applications. With its support for sample rates from 8-to-48kHz, the CS4281 supports all multimedia file types, and increases system design flexibility. Further, this device can handle multiple streams of data for systems that include a software modem and/or multiple audio channels, thereby supporting streaming audio in gaming and Internet applications.

Cirrus Logic can supply customers worldwide with a complete audio solution including hardware, software and support. “Cirrus Logic is committed to delivering the industry’s best audio chips for computing systems using Microsoft Operating Systems, and we are proud to be the first audio vendor to meet Windows Logo requirements for Windows Me,” said Keith Essency, vice president and general manager of Cirrus Logic’s Crystal Computer Audio Division.
