The SA12 is a 15 A, 200 V pulse width modulation (PWM) amplifier that can deliver up to 3,000 W to the load. This PWM can switch at a very high 200 kHz frequency that is internally generated via a clock input stage that divides the internal 400 kHz oscillator by two while requiring no external components. External oscillators may be used to lower the switching frequency or to synchronize multiple amplifiers.
Protection features for the SA12 include current sensing to provide amplitude and direction data for each half of the device’s bridge circuitry and allow the shutdown input to turn off all four drivers of the H-bridge output. A high-side current limit and the programmable low side current limit protect the amplifier from shorts to supply or ground in addition to load shorts. The H-bridge output MOSFETs are protected from thermal overloads by direct temperature sensing of the die. This PWM amplifier is a hybrid product design and housed in an 12-pin hermetic and isolated metal power package that requires just three square inches of board space.
