The SA09 is a 5 A, 40 V pulse width modulation (PWM) amplifier that can switch at frequencies up to 500 kHz. External oscillators may be used to lower the switching frequency or to synchronize multiple amplifiers. Targeted for brush-type motor drives, direct access to the pwm input is provided for connection to digital motion controllers.
Protection features for the SA09 include current sensing to provide amplitude and direction data for each half of the device’s bridge circuitry and allow the shutdown input to turn off all four drivers of the H-bridge output. A high-side current limit and the programmable low side current limit protect the amplifier from shorts to supply or ground in addition to load shorts. The H-bridge output MOSFETs are protected from thermal overloads by direct temperature sensing of the die. This PWM amplifier is a hybrid product design and housed in an 18-pin hermetic and isolated metal power package that requires just one inch square of board space.
