The CS42448 is a highly integrated CODEC that is engineered to simplify design for home theaters and automotive audio systems. This CODEC allows system designers to deliver advanced multichannel surround-sound performance for entry- and mid-level audio products.

The CS42448 allows up to eight single-ended or six differential audio input sources to be incorporated and up to eight single-ended or differential output sources. This high level of integration eliminates the need for external analog-to-digital (A/D) converters to pass multiple audio channels to a DSP chip for audio processing. An auxiliary serial input is available for an additional two channels of PCM (pulse code modulation) data.

The increased input capability enables audio/video (A/V) receivers that receive audio from several sources such as set-top boxes, VCRs or the 5.1 input channels needed for DVD-Audio. In an automotive entertainment system, the audio input sources could include in-car navigation systems, mobile phones, CD/DVD players as well as the radio tuner.

CS42448 outputs feature Cirrus Logic's patented Popguard technology to eliminate power-cycling clicks and pops. Popguard enhances the audio while simplifying system design and reducing the bill-of-material (BOM) costs.

The CS42448 delivers advanced performance, design flexibility, a reduction in BOM costs and a competitive price-point. This IC is ideal for audio applications such as A/V receivers, DVD receivers and automotive audio systems, applications that require wide dynamic range, negligible distortion and low noise.
