Featuring a wide dynamic range, low-noise performance and negligible distortion, the CS42406 surround-sound audio CODEC is ideal for applications such as audio/video and DVD receivers, digital mixing consoles, effects processors and automotive audio systems.

The CS42406 performs stereo analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion and provides six channels of digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion of up to 24-bit serial values at sample rates as high as 192 kHz. The A/D converters and D/A converters allow for simplified system design by providing single-ended inputs and outputs. The D/A converters offer a volume control that operates with a 1 dB step size. Cirrus Logic's patented Popguard technology, with selectable soft ramp and zero-crossing transition functions, is incorporated into the D/A converters to eliminate clicks and pops often associated with the powering on and off of D/A converters with single-ended outputs. The D/A converters' integrated digital mixing functions allow a variety of output configurations, ranging from a channel swap to a stereo-to-mono downmix.

Integrated level shifters are designed to eliminate the need for external components that connect the CODEC with the system's host digital signal processor. The stereo A/D converter includes a high-pass filter as well.
