The highly integrated CS4245 stereo audio codec provides developers with a solution that streamlines product development, reduces overall design complexity and cost, and delivers premium audio performance.
The CS4245’s front-end features an integrated analog input selector to accommodate up to six stereo audio sources. Also included is a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) capable of ±12 dB of analog gain in 0.5 dB step sizes with zero-crossing, click-free transitions to maintain sonic quality. One pair of inputs has a dedicated microphone pre-amplifier in its path that provides 32 dB of gain, and a low-noise microphone bias supply is also available.
The stereo analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion is based on multibit Delta-Sigma architecture. Both the A/D converter and the D/A converter support 24-bit conversion and sample rates up to 192 kHz. A high-pass filter is included for DC offset removal, and a dedicated pin is available for detecting overflow conditions.
The D/A converter includes digital attenuation and provides high-quality single-ended inputs and outputs; the outputs feature Cirrus Logic’s patented Popguard technology, which eliminates power-cycling clicks and pops — as a result, the number of external components needed is reduced.
The CS4245 operates from either a 3.3 V or 5 V power supply. It has 1.8 V to 5 V logic power supplies for the control and serial port, which allows a direct interface to external processors or microcontrollers without level shifting.
The CS4245 delivers professional quality at a break-through price point for applications such as DVD recorders and receivers, digital video recorders/personal video recorders, digital TVs, set-top boxes, home media centers, automotive entertainment systems, home theater products, and PC sound cards.
