With a focus on lowering system power, improving battery life and reducing board space, Cirrus Logic has introduced two new ICs for smartphones and mobile applications: the CS42L73 smart audio CODEC and the CS35L0X family of hybrid Class D amplifiers.
The CS42L73 gives smartphone designers a better option for handing all audio-related tasks — reducing the burden of the system’s applications processor, lowering power consumption and subsequently improving battery life.
To meet the multiple challenges of delivering high-quality audio in a mobile handset application while keeping noise and power consumption low, the CS35L0X family of hybrid Class D audio amplifiers consume only 0.9mA of quiescent current, which is 40 percent less than the nearest competitor delivers, in an amazingly small 1.2 mm space. The amplifier family combines Class D efficiency and output power with low idle current consumption and minimal EMI found typically only in class AB amplifiers.
