Cirrus Logic Deploys Unique S/PDIF Output in Two New AC-97 V2.1-Compliant Audio Solutions

Single and Two-Chip Solutions Support All Major Operating Systems

FREMONT, Calif. -- April 12, 1999 -- In a move that strengthens its leadership position in the audio IC market, Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today introduced two PC audio solutions that provide a unique S/PDIF output and comply with or exceed the new AC-97 v2.1 audio standards.

The CS4299 audio codec is a single-chip solution designed for next-generation PCs that incorporate Intel's new core logic chip sets. The CS4297A audio codec and CS4281 audio controller comprise a two-chip solution for PCs requiring support for legacy peripherals, and for embedded systems such as set-top boxes and hand-held computers.

Both entries are the first audio solutions to offer S/PDIF output for easy digital connection with the growing number of consumer electronics products that support S/PDIF input. On the analog side, they provide sound that will rival home entertainment systems through a variety of patented techniques such as CrystalClear™ 3-D enhancement.

Both solutions support all the major operating systems, including Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0, and the upcoming Windows 2000.
