Cirrus Logic’s CS556x/7x/8x Family of Industrial Analog-to-Digital Converters & CS4525 Digital Amplifier Grab Industry Award Nominations

EDN Magazine and EE Times Give the Nod to Innovative Cirrus Chips Used in MP3 Player Docking Stations and Other Consumer and Industrial Applications

AUSTIN, Texas – March 5, 2008 – Cirrus Logic today announced that two of its high-precision analog integrated circuits (ICs) have been selected from hundreds of nominees and named as award finalists in the top analog IC categories from two respected semiconductor publications: EDN Magazine and EE Times. Cirrus Logic’s CS556x/7x/8x family of industrial analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) is competing for top honors in the 2007 EDN Innovation Awards, while the CS4525 digital amplifier is a finalist in 2008 EE Times Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards.

“We are extremely pleased that two of our analog IC products have been recognized within the industry for their technology innovation,” said Jason Rhode, president and chief executive officer, Cirrus Logic. “The CS55XX rewrites the rule book for performance in Delta-Sigma industrial A/D converters, and the CS4525 has turned out to be a very appealing solution in MP3 docking stations.”

Instituted in 1990, EDN’s Innovation Awards honor the people, products, and technologies that have shaped the semiconductor industry over the past year. Nominees are highlighted as demonstrating innovation resulting in a significant advance in technology and/or product development in the past year.

The CS55XX family combines the higher-bandwidth, low-distortion performance of a SAR converter with high-resolution, low-noise performance that is the hallmark of Delta-Sigma ADCs. The breakthrough combination of features provides designers of precision instrumentation, such as industrial process controllers, laboratory instrumentation, medical instrumentation and high-speed weighing systems, with a significantly higher level of measurement accuracy, lower noise and higher throughput.

EE Times’ fourth Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards recognize the electronics engineering industry’s most innovative companies and breakthrough technologies. Cirrus’ CS4525 is notable as an ACE Awards finalist because it integrates a stereo analog-to-digital converter, sample-rate converter, digital audio processor and a complete 30-watt Class D amplifier, including the controller and power stage. Moreover, the CS4525 is unique because it supports both incoming analog and digital audio signals, and its highly efficient power stage eliminates the need for a heat sink in system designs.

ACE Awards finalists in each category were chosen by qualified readers of EE Times and eeProductCenter.com via electronic balloting, from a list of nominees submitted to readers by expert editors with accompanying editorial reviews.

The 2007 EDN Innovations Award winners will be announced at a dinner and awards event on April 14, 2008 in San Jose, Calif. Winners of the 2008 EE Times ACE Awards will be honored at the ACE Awards Gala on April 15, 2008 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, Calif.
