AUSTIN, Texas – March 17, 2004 – Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Desay A&V Science and Technology Co. Ltd. is now shipping two sub-$400 DVD recorders, the DVR-K95A and DVR-K92A, based upon DVD recorder encode/decode chipsets and software from Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS). The new Desay products will soon be available in retail outlets in Italy and Spain.
Cirrus’ DVD recording reference design integrates the CS92288 MPEG CODEC, Cirrus’ flagship CS98201 DVD processor, the CS5333 analog-to-digital converter and the CS4362 six-channel digital-to-analog converter, giving Desay a comprehensive, market-ready solution that delivers the hardware, software and manufacturing tool kit necessary to help the company quickly establish its DVD recorders in the market.
“Cirrus Logic is providing Desay with the proven and complete hardware and software technology we need to establish a strong presence in the fast-growing DVD recording market,” said Cao Changqing, vice general manager of Desay.
The DVR-K95A and DVR-K92A will provide consumers with high-quality audio-and-video record and playback for long-term storage and playback of recorded DVD discs.
Consumer DVD recorders, including standalone DVD recorders, optical and hard-drive-enabled combination DVD recorders and home theater recorders, which record video digitally, are expected to become one of the fastest growing segments in digital entertainment during the next several years, with possible unit sales of up to 51 million units by 2006 (source: IDC, September 2003). These devices will allow consumers to upgrade more than 30 years of VCR technology and begin to store and view content in the digital domain. Cirrus Logic’s reference platform is designed to help customers such as Desay drive volume production of more affordable DVD recording products.
