LAS VEGAS – Consumer Electronics Show – Jan. 8, 2004 – Demonstrating its success as a high-volume supplier in the rapidly growing digital video recording consumer market, Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) today announced that it has recently shipped more than one million digital video recorder chips. Cirrus Logic reached this milestone through the enthusiastic acceptance of its second-generation MPEG audio/video encoder family, now widely used in many consumer digital video recording products.
“Cirrus Logic has achieved a leading position as a volume supplier in digital video encoding ICs and is well positioned to capitalize on this rapidly growing market,” said Jack Guedj, vice president of Video Products Marketing, Cirrus Logic. “Having shipped more than one million units is a testament to the quality of our proven solution and the consumer acceptance of Cirrus Logic-based DVD recorders.”
To prepare for the anticipated explosive growth in the DVD recording market this year, Cirrus Logic last October introduced its third-generation MPEG audio/video encoder family, the CS9268X family. The new family of chips offers ideal solutions for manufacturers of DVD recorders and combination DVD recorders with optical and hard-disk drive storage capabilities. At the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Cirrus Logic announced that two of its customers, Mustek and LG Electronics, are developing next-generation DVD recorders based upon these new Cirrus Logic reference platforms.
“Our newest generation of digital encoding chips, combined with the continued strength of our existing encoding products, positions us well to expand our market presence in 2004 and beyond,” Guedj said.
