Cirrus Logic CobraNet Technology to Support 96 kHz Sample Rates

Lower Latency and 96 kHz Sampling Rates Strengthen CobraNet Performance in Live and Studio Applications

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Oct. 14, 2003 – The Commercial Audio Products business of Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) today announced two enhancements to its CobraNet™ technology designed to reduce latency and increase the sample rate for recording applications. These two enhancements to CobraNet are designed to strengthen the quality of audio performance in both live and studio environments. CobraNet, developed and marketed by Peak Audio, which Cirrus acquired in 2001, is the professional audio industry's leading technology for distributing uncompressed, real-time, digital audio over Ethernet networks.

Low latency modes from CobraNet means that audio can be transported across an Ethernet network with a latency as low as 1-1/3 ms. This higher performance makes the use of CobraNet ideal for live-music venues, as evidenced by recent concerts for artists such as Peter Gabriel and Eric Clapton where CobraNet was the driving technology for audio distribution.

In addition, Cirrus Logic has added a 96 kHz sample rate capability to its CobraNet technology. When coupled with CobraNet's longstanding 24-bit audio resolution capability and high quality audio clock distribution, CobraNet now clearly addresses the needs of studio-recording professionals and growing numbers of very high-performance commercial applications.

CobraNet now supports 96 kHz sample rate audio and lowered latency for all new licensees and makes this enhanced capability available to existing licensees through a simple firmware upgrade.

"These two performance improvements to the CobraNet technology will expand the range of applications for CobraNet," said Rich Zwiebel, vice president, Commercial Audio, Cirrus Logic. "Lower latency answers the needs of the most latency sensitive venues, such as live theater. By providing 96 kHz support, we have opened up the most critical listening environments to the world of networked audio. We expect these new CobraNet features, combined with a continuing stream of improved technical capabilities, will help to keep CobraNet in the forefront of the accelerating market for audio networking."
