AUSTIN, Texas – Oct. 9, 2003 – Leveraging its proven expertise in high-performance electronic weigh-scale applications, Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) announces its entry into high-volume weigh-scale markets with the CS5550, a 2-channel, Delta-Sigma analog-to-digital (A/D) converter. The CS5550 delivers both value and precision measuring capabilities in a single IC solution, making it easier to design into a wide range of digital scales.

The CS5550 combines two A/D converters, two amplifiers, a voltage reference and a bidirectional serial interface all integrated into a single IC that delivers precise measurements. It is a 2-channel solution with 13 effective bits on channel 1, and 10 effective bits on channel 2. Performance is based on a proven Delta-Sigma A/D architecture. The CS5550 also includes an on-chip temperature sensor that is designed to measure and compensate for temperature fluctuations that may compromise accuracy.

Manufacturers accustomed to traditional multichip solutions and proprietary technologies will find that the single-chip CS5550 provides a high level of integration and improved performance, making it an attractive solution for a number of applications, including consumer products such as personal digital scales and home postal weigh-scales. Targeted toward the growing global market for lower-end weigh-scale products, the CS5550 is the first in a new family of products from Cirrus in this price and performance range.
