BROOMFIELD, Colo. – March 11, 2003 – Peak Audio, the Commercial Audio Products business of Cirrus Logic, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS), announced the CS18101 digital audio networking processor, the first release of CobraNet™ technology integrated into a microprocessor. CobraNet, developed and marketed by Peak Audio, is the professional audio industry’s leading technology for distributing uncompressed, real-time, digital audio over a Fast Ethernet network.
The introduction of the CS18101 will result in a significant reduction in the cost of incorporating CobraNet technology into a product, allowing manufacturers to offer audio networking in a lower-cost class of products. Capable of handling eight bi-directional audio channels, the new CS18101 is ideal for use in powered speakers, power amplifiers, signal processing devices and mixing consoles.
The CS18101 will be available through a licensing agreement to manufacturers of high-performance audio equipment. Currently, 37 leading manufacturers have chosen CobraNet as their solution for audio networking.
“While CobraNet is currently the technology of choice in products marketed by many of the industry’s leading manufacturers, it is still primarily utilized in their higher-end products,” states Rich Zwiebel, vice president of Commercial Audio Products, Cirrus Logic. “Those companies have looked to us for a lower-cost solution and the CS18101 is designed to address that need in the marketplace. The introduction of the CS18101 will open up the much larger, mid- and lower-end markets to CobraNet technology. CobraNet on a chip has been a product development focus for us, and we are pleased to announce availability of this new product in late 2003.”
Along with the CS18101, Cirrus will also be introducing the CM-2 module as a complement to the existing CM-1 module. The CM-2 utilizes the CS18101 and is the same size and footprint, and is plug-compatible with the CM-1. This will allow manufacturers the ability to adapt the new lower cost module seamlessly into many existing products.
Pricing and Availability
The CS18101 and CM-2 will be in sample production in the summer of 2003 with full production scheduled in Q4 of 2003. Pricing is not available.
