AUSTIN, Texas – September 12, 2002 – Continuing to build on its leadership in the audio IC market, Cirrus Logic, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS), has introduced two audio, high-performance, digital-to-analog converters (DACs) that enable manufacturers to bring DVD-Audio players to the mainstream consumer market. The CS4340A and CS4341A provide an easy upgrade path for manufacturers and are available immediately.

Cirrus’ CS4340A and CS4341A provide superior features including 192 kHz required for DVD-Audio. These solutions enable digital entertainment equipment manufacturers to bring new technologies and attractive new capabilities to consumers at mass market prices. The CS4340A and CS4341A are Cirrus Total-E™ IC solutions designed for consumer entertainment applications such as DVD-Audio players, DVD-receivers, digital A/V receivers, DVD-recorders and automotive audio entertainment systems.

The CS4340A and CS4341A support the 24-bit conversion and all standard audio sample rates up to 192kHz, complying with the DVD-Audio standard. Key features include proprietary automatic sample rate detection for sample rates from 4 kHz to 192 kHz, single power supply operation from 3.3 V to 5.0 V, Popguard™ technology for control of power cycle clicks and pops, and low clock jitter sensitivity. The CS4341A DAC includes a digital volume control with soft ramp and zero cross transitions that improves overall system sound quality. The CS4340A and CS4341A are pin-compatible with Cirrus’ current market leading audio DAC solutions, CS4340 and CS4341, providing manufacturers with an easy upgrade path for existing CS4340/1 sockets. Delivering 101dB dynamic range and minimal noise distortion at 91dB THD+N, CS4340A and CS4341A deliver superior sound quality at competitive prices.

Pricing and Availability

The CS4340A and CS4341A are priced at $1.11 and $1.24 for 50,000 OEM quantities. Both DACs are pin compatible with CS4340 and CS4341 and are currently available in a 16-pin SOIC package.
