New Cirrus Logic CS7410 Music Processor To Power Two Egoman Portable Compressed Audio Players

CS7410 Allows New Egoman Players To Deliver Up To 22 Hours of Music on a Single CD

AUSTIN, Texas – August 12, 2002 – Cirrus Logic (Nasdaq: CRUS) today announced a design win involving its new CS7410 music processor, which will power two new CD-based MP3/WMA players to be marketed under the Egoman™ consumer brand. Taiwan-based Ego Technologies will also offer the designs to other consumer electronics companies, which will market and distribute the players under separate brand labeling.

Named Egoman LA 220 and Egoman LA 420 respectively, the players leverage the CS7410's high performance to offer almost a full day of compressed digital music per CD, in many cases allowing consumers to carry their entire music collection with them on one disc.

“Cirrus' CS7410 has allowed Ego Technologies to offer two state-of-the-art personal audio players at extremely competitive price points,” said Gary Chu, president and CEO, Ego Technologies. “As personal audio consumers grow more demanding, Cirrus continues to offer breakthrough processors that help Ego Technologies maintain a competitive edge in worldwide marketplaces.”

“Ego Technologies has utilized Cirrus' latest compressed audio playback technology to produce two exciting and affordable portable audio players that help consumers maximize the enjoyment of their digital music collections,” said Terry Leeder, sales and marketing vice president, Cirrus Logic. “Additionally, the design win creates marketplace momentum for Cirrus' new CS7410, which we expect will help drive mainstream adoption of compressed music in the years ahead.”

Production of the Egoman products is scheduled to begin later this month, with retail availability targeted for Q4 2002. Ego Technologies plans to market and distribute the players throughout Taiwan, China and Europe.

Egoman is one of the leading portable compressed audio player brands in Taiwan, and Ego Technologies is a premier original design manufacturer (ODM) of portable compressed audio players for markets worldwide.

The design win extends Cirrus' lead in the personal compressed music player market and further establishes the company as an early innovator in the CD-based MP3/WMA player space – a rapidly growing digital entertainment category that is building marketplace momentum by creating convenient and inexpensive new ways for consumers to store, carry and enjoy many hours of their favorite digital music.

Research firm IDC forecasts that U.S. shipments of CD-based compressed music players will surpass those of every other portable compressed music player category in 2002, and will grow from over 1 million units in 2001 to surpass 18 million units in 2006, representing a compound annual growth rate of 77 percent.

Cirrus’ CS7410 music processor makes it inexpensive and simple for manufacturers to add compressed music playback capability to mainstream audio products. It offers manufacturers a rich feature set, a flexible architecture that supports CD-DA, MP3 and WMA compression formats, and low overall system costs due to its highly integrated design.

The CS7410 is optimized for CD-based audio systems, including portable CD players, boom boxes, and bookshelf audio mini systems. It includes a 32-bit RISC core, a 16-bit audio DSP, an 18-bit delta sigma modulator, 256K of ROM, and 80K of RAM all in one 100-pin LQFP or MQFP package.
