AUSTIN, Texas – May 20, 2002 – Cirrus Logic, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) today announced a major design win for its CS98100 DVD video processor and CS4360 converter, which power TCL Holdings Company’s TD-3710 and TD-3720 DVD players.
TCL is one of the largest industrial enterprises in southern China and maintains a leading position in the Chinese TV market. The company’s Cirrus-powered DVD players are currently shipping to domestic markets throughout China.
According to Cahners In-Stat, Chinese consumer DVD player sales are expected to jump from 4.5 million units in 2001 to 15 million units in 2005, representing a four year growth rate of 333 percent.
TCL's new DVD players take full advantage of the CS98100's progressive scan capabilities to deliver crisp digital television (DTV) video performance. The CS98100 and other Cirrus ICs provide TCL with a sophisticated, market-leading feature set.
“We chose Cirrus Logic because the CS98100 delivers great value. It offers a rich feature set at an attractive system cost,” said Guanghui Yu, general manager, Overseas Business Division, TCL Holdings Co., Ltd. “Cirrus’ superior on-chip integration, software support and reference design let TCL focus on providing value-added features and product differentiation for our TD-3710 and TD-3720 DVD players.”
The TCL DVD players also feature the Cirrus Logic CS4360, a complete, 6-channel, digital-to-analog converter ideal for high volume, multi-channel audio systems such as DVD players. The complementary Cirrus ICs provide the TCL DVD players with a powerful, cost-effective solution, and highlight Cirrus’s Total-Entertainment™ capability as the only DVD IC supplier with audio, video, analog and optical ICs.
“With the CS98100, Cirrus Logic is anticipating the rapid growth dynamic of DTV,” said Winter Chan, vice president, Asia Pacific Sales, Cirrus Logic. “Cirrus is delivering DVD processors with the leading edge features that allow our customers in China and elsewhere to maximize sales opportunities by offering DTV-ready players at attractive consumer price points. Solutions like our CS98100 will help companies like TCL continue to gain market share in worldwide DVD markets.”
The CS98100 offers progressive scan output, as well as DTS, HDCD, MP3 and WMA decoding capabilities. With a customer programmable 32-bit RISC core running at 90 MIPS, the CS98100 accomplishes all necessary decoding/processing functions in home theater systems including DVD navigation, disk control, MPEG-2 video decoding, and multi-standard audio decoding. It includes a high quality video encoder with a triple 10-bit video DAC, allowing for a significant decrease in system cost.
