AUSTIN, Texas -- May, 7, 2002 -- Cirrus Logic, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) today announced that its CS98010 DVD processor, CS4340 digital-to-analog converter, and CS4955 digital video encoder have been selected to power a line of popular DVD players that Argus Electronics produces for European markets on behalf of its subsidiary, Cyber Home Entertainment Europe GmbH. The Cirrus-powered products are Cyber Home’s CH-DVD 302 and AB-L 528 DVD players.
Cyber Home is a leading manufacturer of cost-effective, high quality DVD consumer devices with significant presence in European markets. Cyber Home DVD player sales are especially strong in Germany, where the company’s products are distributed by major retailers including Wal-Mart, Promarkt, Mediamarkt and Saturn.
Consumer DVD player adoption rates in Europe are expected to rise substantially in the years ahead, making the region a major growth market for DVD manufacturers. U.K. research firm Understanding & Solutions, Ltd. estimates that Western Europe DVD player household penetration rates will jump from 7 percent in 2001 to 60 percent by 2008.
Reinforcing Cirrus Logic’s reputation as a driving force of the digital entertainment revolution, this high volume design win expands Cirrus’ position in the DVD industry and further establishes the company as a supplier to leading global brands. The design win builds on Cirrus’ recent momentum in DVD player markets, where the company’s processors have been designed into a number of market-leading DVD player models from manufacturers including Bose and Shanghai Video & Audio Electronics.
"The sleek design and competitive pricing of the Cyber Home DVD players are compelling selling points that appeal to European digital entertainment consumers," said Thomas Chen, president, Cyber Home. "Cirrus Logic's CS98010 DVD processor helps Cyber Home provide a rich feature set and outstanding value to our customers."
Cirrus’ CS98010 processor is designed for DVD players and DVD subsystems delivering standard DVD features, as well as additional functionality such as MP3 and JPEG functions, all at a competitive price. The processor provides all necessary audio and video processing functions including MPEG-2 video decoding, MP3 decoding, Dolby Digital support, DTS output support, virtual 3-D and multi-region on-screen display (OSD) with vertical flicker filter in a compact 128 pin package.
"The proven features and performance of the CS98010 processor, together with the Cyber Home players' outstanding design, make these models popular products in a hot market segment," said Lew Paceley, marketing vice president, Crystal Products Division, Cirrus Logic. "The Cyber Home players are a perfect demonstration of how Cirrus’ DVD processors deliver state-of-the-art features at attractive system costs, helping manufacturers meet consumer demands for contemporary entertainment products that deliver great value."
