AUSTIN, Texas -- March 5, 2002 -- Cirrus Logic (Nasdaq: CRUS) has secured a major design win for its recently launched CS98100 DVD video processor, which will power Shanghai Video & Audio Electronics’ (SVA) new digital television-ready DP262 DVD player.
Demonstrating Cirrus’ increasing momentum in China, the design win is an initial result of a recently established relationship between Cirrus Logic and SVA, a leading Chinese electronics firm. SVA and Cirrus Logic intend to cooperate in the supply and application of each company's technology and manufacturing capabilities.
SVA’s new DVD player leverages the CS98100’s progressive scan capabilities to deliver crisp digital television (DTV) video performance. Full production is expected to begin in March. The player will be exported and sold under leading consumer entertainment brands, and will be marketed to consumers in China with the SVA brand name.
"Consumers look for progressive scan functionality because they want a DVD player that is ‘future proof’," said Winter Chan, vice president of sales, Cirrus Logic, Asia Pacific. "SVA’s selection of the new CS98100 processor allows the company to offer an affordable product that enhances picture quality for current DTV owners, while ensuring that consumers planning future television upgrades will have a DVD player capable of maximizing DTV performance."
The DVD player market is one of the fastest growing in the world. According to Cahners In-Stat/MDR, worldwide DVD sales will grow from 29 million units in 2002 to an anticipated 69 million units 2005.
"Cirrus Logic’s CS98100 will speed time-to-market and enable us to gain an early mover advantage," said Sun Yu Huan, standing vice general manager, SVA. "With its superior on-chip integration, software support and reference design, the CS98100 solution enables us to focus on providing value-added features and high quality playback for our DP262 DVD product."
The SVA design win also includes several other Cirrus products, marking the win as a success for Cirrus Logic's Total-Entertainment (Total-E™) strategy, which provides a comprehensive framework and tools to allow manufacturers to more easily customize their product offerings and bring them to market quicker. In addition to the CS98100 processor, the SVA DP262 DVD player includes Cirrus’ CS4340 DAC, and some versions also include Cirrus’ CS4955 TV encoder.
