15-Year Cirrus Veteran Recognized at

San Jose, CA - December 6, 2001-- Cirrus Logic, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) today announced that the Chairman of its Board of Directors, Michael L. Hackworth, will be honored by the Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA) at its 2001 Awards Dinner. This year’s celebration, entitled Imagine the Future, will be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center on December 6. Hackworth will be presented with the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award for his visionary contributions to the fabless semiconductor industry. He was a driving force in the early development of Cirrus Logic, the leading semiconductor company in consumer entertainment electronics, serving as its President and CEO from 1985 to 1998, when he transferred these duties and assumed the Chairmanship of the Board of Directors.

"Mike's experience and insight have been a guiding light as we've moved our business model into the 21st century. We're very proud that the FSA is honoring him for the qualities we've always known he's had - exceptional leadership and vision," said David D. French, current President and CEO of Cirrus Logic, who succeeded Hackworth.

With more than 15 years of service to Cirrus Logic, Hackworth ably led the company from a start-up to a major supplier of advanced integrated circuits. He handed the executive helm at Cirrus to French in 1999, but continues to serve as Chairman of the Board and an outside director for the company. In 1999, he also became president and CEO of Aspirian, an Internet-based software development company. In addition, Hackworth currently serves as a director of the Read-Rite Corporation, an independent supplier of magnetic recording heads for the hard disk drive market, and Virage Logic Inc., an IP supplier of embedded memory compliers for system-on-a-chip applications. He also serves as an advisor to several Silicon Valley venture funds and private company start-ups.

Hackworth has a combined history of over 30 years working in the semiconductor industry. Prior to Cirrus Logic, Hackworth spent 14 years at Signetics Corp., a subsidiary of N.V. Philips, where he served in a variety of management positions, including senior vice president. Before joining Signetics (now Philips Semiconductors), he held several general management and marketing and sales management positions at Motorola and Fairchild Semiconductor. In 1990, he was named the Ernst & Young Semiconductor Entrepreneur of the Year.
