FREMONT, Calif. - Nov. 8, 1999 -- -- Highlighting the acceptance of its award-winning(1) 3Ci™ integrated circuit, Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today confirmed that its 3Ci solution is designed into Fujitsu's new XV10 family of desktop hard disk drives (HDDs). Announced last week, the new XV10 models, MPF3xxxAT, include a single-platter 10.2 GB and multi-platter 15.3 and 20.4 GB models.
"Integration is fundamental to the future success of the HDD industry," said Art Swift, vice president and general manager of Cirrus Logic's Magnetic Storage Division. "We are very pleased that Fujitsu has endorsed our integration strategy with the selection of our 3Ci solution. 3Ci leverages our proven mixed-signal integration techniques by combining, for the first time on a single chip, our advanced PRML read channel technology with an Ultra-ATA 66 disk controller and a 32-bit microcontroller."
"Our new XV10 family highlights Fujitsu's commitment to deliver high-performance products for the entry-level disk drive market and strengthens our position as a leading storage supplier," said Paul Hansen, vice president Storage Products Group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "Our leading-edge GMR-head technology combined with Cirrus Logic's innovative 3Ci solution enables us to provide our value-oriented PC customers optimal performance, functionality and reliability."
3Ci Platform
The 3Ci™ platform provides all the key HDD functions on a single-chip, including a partial-response-maximum-likelihood (PRML) read channel for reliable data acquisition at 330 Mbits/s; an Ultra ATA 66 disk controller, which provides the industry's fastest data transfers between drive and host; and an ARM 32-bit processor core to handle both system and servo control functions. Since the 3Ci solution also integrates the customer's servo logic and the ARM processor program memory, the only system functions needed to create a complete HDD design are the pre-amp, motor drivers, buffer memory and Flash memory.
