AUSTIN, Texas – June 12, 2001 – Peak Audio, a division of Cirrus Logic (Nasdaq: CRUS), today announced that Digigram will license and integrate into its own product line Peak Audio’s CobraNet ™ technology and patented, networked loudspeaker technology. In addition, Digigram will become the exclusive agent for licensing, and marketing CobraNet in Europe. Peak Audio enables its customers to deliver faster, easier and lower cost implementations as well as superior audio quality for commercial audio systems, such as those used in sports centers, theme parks, stadiums, concert venues, convention centers and other commercial facilities.
Peak’s patented audio distribution technology, CobraNet, is considered the de facto standard for multi-channel audio distribution. CobraNet is a combination of software, hardware and network protocol, which allows for the distribution of many channels of real-time, high quality digital audio over an Ethernet network. With over 50 million nodes installed, Ethernet technology is the most widely used local area network access system in the world. Today, most commercial facilities are equipped with a facility-wide Ethernet infrastructure, which carries computer files, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) controls, security, and other types of data. CobraNet is the only technology that can distribute high quality, uncompressed audio over the same Category-5 (CAT-5) and fiber optic cables used for the Ethernet network, thus eliminating the need to install separate and costly conduit and cable.
“CobraNet has emerged as the leading standard for audio networking,” said Philippe Girard-Buttoz, president of Digigram. “Competition demands a constant search for better ways to transport and share data and to more efficiently control networked devices. Through the relationship with Peak Audio, our customers will benefit through faster and simpler implementations at a lower cost than would be possible with other installed audio systems.”
“Digigram is already a leader in networked audio,” said Charles Anderson, vice president of engineering at Peak Audio. “By leveraging Digigram’s experience in the European market, Peak Audio will further expand CobraNet’s presence in the global marketplace.”
Peak Audio's technology is available exclusively through third party manufacturers of audio products. Digigram joins a list of other distinguished CobraNet licensees, including Biamp, Creative Audio, Crest, Crown, EAW, Ivie, LCS, Peavey, QSC, Rane, Richmond Sound, Telex, and Whirlwind.
