Cirrus Logic Delivers Premier Audio Quality For Computers Running The New Microsoft XP Operating System

AUSTIN, Texas – April 12, 2001 – Personal computer manufacturers that pre-load Windows XP on desktop and notebook computers will also be able to deliver premium sound quality using Cirrus Logic’s (Nasdaq: CRUS) audio solutions with drivers available in the “Beta-2” version of Microsoft’s new Windows XP operating system. In addition, consumers that use computers based on Cirrus Logic’s audio solutions will be able to upgrade their operating system to Windows XP. Originally code-named “Whistler,” Windows XP is expected to begin shipping later this year.

The availability of Windows XP drivers for Cirrus Logic audio solutions coincides with Microsoft’s release of the Beta-2 version of the operating system, which Microsoft announced on March 29. During the beta testing period, personal computer manufacturers and software developers will conduct compatibility testing with the new operating system.

“Cirrus Logic provides computer audio solutions to support all the operating systems that our customers plan to distribute,” said Keith Essency, vice president and general manager for the Computer Audio Division. “By working with Microsoft to ensure the availability of Windows XP drivers, we enable our customers to select high-quality audio solutions from Cirrus Logic with the confidence that Microsoft’s latest operating system will support our products. By keeping pace with the industry’s leading software and hardware companies, Cirrus Logic delivers the newest technology to OEM customers, who in turn can quickly deliver a realistic audio experience to consumers.”

The Windows XP drivers, included on the Beta-2 CDROM from Microsoft, support all three product lines of computer audio solutions from Cirrus Logic: CS42xx AC’97 solutions for motherboard “soft audio,” CS4281 solutions for PCI-attached audio and CX46xx accelerated solutions for add-in sound cards. These drivers join an established product line of Cirrus Logic Windows drivers, available for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000.
