AUSTIN, Texas – October 2, 2000 – Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS), the world’s market leader in audio chips, today announced the company has purchased international patents and patents pending for Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology from B&W Loudspeakers, Great Britain’s leading loudspeaker company. The B&W patents will be used in conjunction with the large number of existing Cirrus Logic patents and technology advances in the company’s new digital PWM line of amplifiers. The PWM technology from Cirrus Logic represents a significant advancement in Crystal® audio technology that reduces power requirements for audio amplifiers, dramatically improves sound quality and reduces cost and complexity of design for audio amplifier applications.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cirrus Logic will own and protect PWM patents related to several fundamental components required to assure true-digital, high-performance amplifier technology. The agreement will allow Cirrus Logic to offer manufacturers a complete end-to-end solution for designing, building and manufacturing PWM amplifiers that are smaller, more power efficient and produce a higher quality of sound than existing technology today.
