AUSTIN, Texas – September 19, 2000 – Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS), the world’s market leader in audio chips, today announced the industry’s lowest power A/D converter system, the Crystal CS53L32A, that consumes only 9.7mW of power. The CS53L32A is the only low-voltage audio A/D converter with a microphone amplifier and a 2:1 input multiplexer integrated in a 20-pin TSSOP package. The high level of analog integration of the 53L32A in a small, low-profile package reduces board space by 75 percent over existing solutions. This highly integrated chip is ideal for voice recognition systems, portable minidisk (MD) recording devices, internet music players (e.g., MP3),personal digital assistants (PDA’s), notebook PCs, hands-free car kits, digital video cameras, and many other voice/audio recording devices.
The CS53L32A provides 98dB dynamic range and -88dB total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) which produces excellent sound quality and longer battery life for audio applications requiring low power consumption. The CS53L32A features 12dB variable input gain in 1dB steps, single-ended inputs, 2:1 input MUX, digital gain and attenuation, and a low-voltage A/D converter. The CS53L32A complements the Crystal CS43L43 D/A converter and Cirrus Logic’s Maverick™ Market Specific Processor product line to offer a complete audio solution for Internet audio players and recorders.
“The addition of the CS53L32A to our product portfolio gives Cirrus Logic the only complete Internet audio solution and proves our commitment to analog innovation in explosive markets,” said Jason Carlson, vice president and general manager for Cirrus Logic's Consumer Products Division. “This A/D converter will increase the performance and battery life for portable audio players and broaden the market of voice recognition systems.”
According to Will Strauss, president of Forward Concepts, an independent market research firm in Tempe, Arizona, Cirrus Logic is the leading supplier of audio chips worldwide and represents 20 percent of the Audio IC (Integrated Circuits) market.
