AUSTIN, TX – June 22, 2000 – Cirrus Logic, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today disclosed that on June 9th, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas granted emergency relief to Cirrus Logic in its patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation suit against SigmaTel, Inc., ordering SigmaTel’s CEO to deliver an affidavit asserting non-use of the Crystal Semiconductor Netlist software program, along with the return of all copies.
Pursuant to the Court’s June 9th ruling, Cirrus Logic yesterday received an affidavit from SigmaTel president and CEO, Spence Jackson. While denying any wrongdoing, Jackson stated in his affidavit that SigmaTel has returned the copy of the CSC Netlist program that was in its possession.
The emergency relief granted to Cirrus Logic comes within months of the Texas Court’s granting Crystal Semiconductor permission to amend its complaint to include a claim of “Misappropriation of Trade Secrets” encompassing the CSC Netlist program and other proprietary information.
Litigation proceedings against SigmaTel involve intellectual property protected by U.S. Patent No. 4,851,841 issued to Cirrus Logic’s Crystal subsidiary. The CSC Netlist program was developed over a three-year period by Cirrus Logic’s Crystal Semiconductor subsidiary and has been in use by Cirrus Logic since 1994 as a proprietary design tool used together with other design software to develop Cirrus Logic semiconductor products.
