FREMONT, Calif. -- Nov. 9, 1998 -- Underscored by today's announcement of new embedded Ethernet controllers (see related release), Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today affirmed its strategy of leveraging its mixed-signal communications technology for industrial-grade and consumer products. As a complement to Cirrus Logic's leadership in high precision data conversion -- with business in demanding industrial applications -- Cirrus Logic will continue to develop industry leading T1/E1 and Ethernet products.

These products leverage the company's mixed-signal design expertise to deliver extremely robust and noise-tolerant communications solutions for manufacturers of telecommunications and network equipment, as well as emerging applications for embedded Ethernet. Specific products include Telecommunications Line Interface Units (LIUs) and Framers, and Ethernet Controllers and PHYs. While Cirrus Logic has affirmed its commitment to provide these mixed-signal communications products, the company recently entered into a memorandum of understanding to spin out certain digital communications products to Basis Communications.

Cirrus Logic is a premier supplier of precision linear circuits and advanced mixed-signal system-level chip solutions, the latter of which demand high-performance mixed-signal processing, embedded DSP, algorithms and firmware. The company's products, sold under its own name and the Crystal product brand, enable high-volume applications in mass storage, communications, consumer electronics and industrial markets.
