International Solid-State Circuits Conference Selects Three Technical Papers from Cirrus Logic

FREMONT, Calif. -- Nov. 10, 1998 -- Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today announced that the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) has selected three technical papers authored by Cirrus Logic engineers recognizing the company's technological leadership in precision-linear and mixed-signal technologies. The ISSCC, the foremost global forum for the presentation of advances in solid-state circuits, will be held February 15-17, 1999 in San Francisco.

"The prestigious ISSCC recognition of our precision-linear and mixed-signal expertise highlights the focused R&D investments we are making to increase our intellectual assets," said David French, President and COO of Cirrus Logic. "Of the more than 800 patents that we hold, both issued and pending, about 40% involve mixed-signal technology, which is critical to creating highly integrated system-on-a-chip solutions," he added.

The three Cirrus Logic papers will disclose cutting-edge developments in precision data conversion, as well as in mass-storage electronics for both magnetic and optical drives. Following is a brief description of the papers:

"A Mixed Signal 120Msample/s Solution for DVD Systems" discusses a 3.3V 120 Mb/s fully integrated DVD data channel, servo and error correction system which uses 0.35 µm CMOS technology and dissipates 1.5W.

"260Mb/s Mixed-Signal Single-Chip Integrated System Electronics for Magnetic Hard Disk Drives" elucidates 3CI: The first mixed-signal single-chip to integrate the four major VLSI functions in HDD Systems electronics, namely a Read Channel, an ATA Hard Disk Controller, an open architecture ARM Microcontroller, and motion control servo block.

"A 110dB THD, 18mW DAC Using Sampling of the Output and Feedback to Reduce Distortion" presents a one-bit DAC architecture that eliminates distortion from settling at the interface from discrete to continuous time through feedback.

Cirrus Logic is a premier supplier of precision-linear circuits and advanced mixed-signal system-level solutions, the latter of which demand high-performance mixed-signal processing, embedded DSP, algorithms and firmware. The company's products, sold under its own name and the Crystal product brand, enable high-volume applications in mass storage, communications, consumer electronics and industrial markets.
