David D. French Named New President/COO of Cirrus Logic

Former Analog Devices Executive Brings 20 Years' Semiconductor Industry Experience to Top Management Post Overseeing Cirrus Logic's Worldwide Operations

FREMONT, Calif. - June 26, 1998 - Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today announced that David D. French, 41, formerly a vice president and general manager for Analog Devices Inc. (NYSE: ADI) in charge of DSP/mixed-signal processing products, has been named president and chief operating officer reporting to Michael L. Hackworth, chairman and CEO.

"Dave's addition complements and expands upon the strengths of our management team as we move into execution mode to pursue existing and emerging growth markets beyond the PC motherboard," said Hackworth. He expressed high confidence in passing the President/COO duties to French who will now oversee Cirrus Logic's worldwide operations, which encompass all product divisions and design centers as well as manufacturing and sales groups.

"I believe David has the right background and skill set to drive our day-to-day operations in support of our new direction," said Hackworth. "Our vision is to lead the industry in integrating mixed-signal processing, algorithms and embedded processors for mass storage, communications, consumer electronics and industrial markets."

French brings more than 20 years' industry-related experience to Cirrus Logic, including 15 years in general management. During his tenure at Analog Devices he was instrumental in driving the company's growth in key markets served by advanced mixed-signal processing solutions. Commenting on his new appointment, French said, "I have long held a great respect for Cirrus Logic's technology and design capabilities, and I look forward to driving product development, manufacturing and sales to achieve solid execution and high levels of customer satisfaction."

Prior to joining Analog Devices in 1988, French held key management posts at Texas Instruments and Fairchild Semiconductor. At Texas Instruments, he played a key role in driving sales and market share growth with products based on the TMS 320 architecture. Serving first as director of marketing and then as general manager of Fairchild's Digital Logic Division, he was responsible for the company's FAST™ family of logic devices, which achieved good margins and gained market share during his tenure. French holds a BSEE from the University of Rochester.
