FREMONT, Calif., -- May 6, 1998 --Cirrus Logic Inc. ((NASDAQ:CRUS) announced today that Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL) selected Cirrus Logic's CrystalClear PCI audio solution for the newest Dell Dimension desktop PC. The Dimension XPS R machine offers users a home-theatre style audio experience through the implementation of Cirrus Logic’s CrystalClear CS4611 PCI audio accelerator and the CS4236B ISA audio codec.

CrystalClear audio solutions from Cirrus Logic deliver the industry’s highest quality sound and most comprehensive feature set including multiple API support, advanced 3D positional audio technologies, full compliance with PC97 requirements, full Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certification and complete SoundBlaster compatibility.

Today’s announcement continues the ongoing relationship that Dell and Cirrus Logic have established. The Dell Dimension XPS R is the newest in a series of Dell computers that feature CrystalClear audio. The Latitude CP portable computer, announced in November 1997, and the Inspiron portable, announced in September 1997, use the CS4237B audio codec. The Dell OptiPlex-GXa corporate desktop PC, announced in August 1997, is the second generation of the OptiPlex family to use the CS4236B codec, and the Dell Workstation 400, a Pentium II-based personal workstation, also employs the CS4236B.

The CS4611 accelerator enables a broad range of PC gaming and edutainment applications. It is based upon Cirrus Logic's innovative SoundFusion technology which accelerates wavetable synthesis and Microsoft DirectSound 5.0 3D positional audio. Pairing the CS4611 with the CS4236B ISA codec adds hardware-based support for legacy SoundBlaster applications instead of the software-based emulation found in many PC audio solutions available today. Cirrus Logic’s audio solution also provides the highest quality audio output available on a PC, matching the quality found in consumer audio equipment.
