FREMONT, Calif. -- April 18, 2000- Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS), the market share leader in audio ICs worldwide, today announced that it shipped more than 50 million Crystal® CS433x digital to analog converters (DACs) since their introduction two years ago.

The popular CS433x family of DACs has been designed into several major consumer product brands, including Sony's recently announced PlayStation2 computer entertainment system as well as the DirectTV® Set-Top Box and RCA's DVD Player. The CS433x family of DACs enables analog output of DVD quality sound while supporting stereo functions for both audio CDs and DVD requirements.

"Our record volume of CS433x shipments highlights our position as the audio IC market leader," said Jason Carlson, vice president and general manager of Cirrus Logic's Consumer Products Division. He confirmed that more than 227 million Crystal audio solutions overall have been shipped to date, including more than 50 million CS433x audio DACs.

Maverick MSP plus Crystal Audio DAC

In addition to the CS433x family, Crystal audio DACs also address the emerging Internet audio market, where the company has captured an early leadership position with its Maverick(TM) line of ``Market Specific Processor(TM)'' solutions. Cirrus Logic reports that a Maverick MSP plus Crystal audio DAC is now shipping with MP3 audio players coming to market, including the Rio 600 from Diamond Multimedia. Cirrus Logic continues to expand upon its audio IC market leadership with a broad range of design wins that encompass professional audio production equipment, consumer home theater, game and stereo systems, and PC audio boards and systems.

CS433x DACs

Each of the audio DACs in the CS433x family provides full stereo digital-to-analog output including interpolation, delta-sigma D/A conversion and output analog filtering in an 8-pin package. The CS433x family supports all major audio data interface formats from 16-bits to 24-bits and provides 96 dB dynamic range, and 96kHz sample rates for superior sound quality and compliance with established DVD specifications.

Each CS433x DAC provides on-chip digital de-emphasis, operates from a single +5V power supply, and requires minimal support circuitry. The CS433x family has been designed into a wide range of consumer products, including set-top boxes, game machines, DVD players, CD players, automotive audio and A/V receivers. The CS433x family includes eight DACs (CS4331, CS4333, CS4334, CS4335, CS4336, CS4337, CS4338 and CS4339) to provide OEMs with a broad choice of performance options.
