Cirrus Logic's New Business Direction Drives Major Expansion Of Global Distribution Network

Five new distributors will carry precision linear and advanced mixed-signal chip solutions in North America, Japan and Asia

FREMONT, Calif. -- March 29, 1999 -- In a move that significantly broadens its global distribution network, Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ:CRUS) today announced the addition of five new distributors to sell its precision linear circuits and mixed-signal IC solutions.

Expanding the company's franchised distributor roster worldwide, the new additions are:

  • Bell Microproducts - North America - see related news release

  • Ryoyo - Japan

  • Vitec - Japan

  • ReignCom - Korea, China and Hong Kong

  • Impact/Memec - China and Hong Kong

"Our new business direction demands a broader channel to support our growing rate of product introductions over the next twelve months," said David French, newly appointed president/CEO of Cirrus Logic. "We look forward to our expanded team of distributor-partners to stimulate broader market demand for the new wave of data conversion, audio and telecommunications products that we plan to introduce."

With Bell Microproducts, Cirrus Logic adds the continent's fastest-growing distributor to complement the North American market coverage of Nu Horizons and Insight Electronics (a Memec Company). "As one of the top ten distributors in North America, Bell Microproducts has demonstrated a strong commitment to mixed-signal and embedded processing design," said Hank Josefczyk, Cirrus Logic's senior vice president of worldwide sales. "With its strong demand-generation programs, and deep product and applications knowledge, we expect Bell Microproducts to make a significant contribution to our mutual success." Josefczyk noted that with the addition of Bell Microproducts as a distributor, Cirrus Logic will gain up to a 30% increase in the number of dedicated applications engineers in the North American channel, addressing a key requirement for mixed-signal design success.

The addition in Japan of a prominent, broad-line distributor such as Ryoyo, and an audiovisual specialist such as Vitec, will augment the successful efforts of Internix, and underscores the importance of the Japanese market to Cirrus Logic. According to Bob Dickinson, new president of Cirrus Logic K.K., "Japan is a huge opportunity for us. Our strengthened lineup of distributors will help us to work with Japanese customers who are global leaders in consumer electronics, information appliances and industrial equipment."

Both of Cirrus Logic's new Asian distributors provide a solutions approach to distribution, and offer in-house design centers to support their customers. Addressing the emerging, and increasingly important China and Hong Kong markets, Cirrus Logic has teamed with ReignCom, and Impact, a subsidiary of Memec. ReignCom will also represent Cirrus Logic in Korea, serving some of the newest contenders in the global consumer electronics.
